After working for seven years as a llama packing guide with Red Rock n’ Llama, I founded Llama2boot with my wife, Abberae, in 2009 as a drop camp service. While drop camps are still our specialty, we are equipped to operate full-service outfitting. Llama packing offers something for everyone, from seasoned backpackers to families with no backcountry experience. Being able to provide a range of service options is important to meet the diverse goals of each group. Drop camps are great for groups comfortable in the outdoors and self-reliant for cooking and hiking—some folks want the gear but not the guide and I can appreciate that, but I also know that groups will miss the secrets of the canyons without a guide. So for those who want to see it all while in this spectacular part of the world, Llama2boot offers full guiding and outfitting services. Permits include the Grand Staircase Escalante Monument and Glen Canyon NRA. This gives us access to over two million acres of public lands. Over the past three years, we’ve been building the llama herd and thinning out the non-packers, so Llama2boot has a good herd of strong and gentle packers ready to work. As more hikers are visiting southern Utah, the importance is growing for pack animals to get adventurers further and deeper into wild Utah.
